After two years coaching at Grinnell High school basketball
with a winning record of 41 wins and 6 losses, Coach Mannebach heard that there
was an opening for the head basketball job at Sacred Heart in Salina. He immediately called Fr Don Weber and told
him that he was really interested in the job.Coach went in for an interview and was hired for the position starting
the 1969-70 school year. This was the
beginning of his dream job.His other
duties were assistant football coach, assistant track coach and teaching in the
business education department.
1969-70 was the first year of football playoffs and our team
qualified for playoffs and went on to win a state football championship.Coach knew that this was the place to be
coaching.The enthusiasm, competitive
spirit, desire, determination and fan following was just outstanding. It was well worth having only one day of
basketball practice because he knew this championship would carry over to
basketball and other sports.
This was the beginning of a great coaching relationship with
Coach Jon Bingesser.Coach has had so
many highlights and memories of his teams to share that it would be a book if
he covered everything fairly.
However, one of his greatest highlights was the 1974-75
undefeated football and undefeated basketball championship teams, becoming the
first school in KSHSAA history to accomplish this feat.
